10% of Portuguese shops online

According to data available from the Portuguese Statistics National Institute (INE), 1 out of 10 Portuguese ordered items online on the first trimester of 2011.

Between 2002 and 2011, the proportion of people who shop through the Internet grew around 23%, as one can check on the INE's chart:



From 2009 on there is a significant growth on the percentage of Portuguese shopping online, revealing an increasingly expanding market, that may be an attractive alternative during the current crisis.

In terms of regions, the North is the region with the lowest percentage of online buyers (7.7%), whilst Lisbon has the higher (13.5%).
