IT companies must be greener

This statement is made by Verdantix, an independent entity that analizes company sustainability: the great players of the Internet market must reduce their carbon emissions.

The report «Carbon Strategy Benchmark: Internet Sector» has analized the 14 largest companies of the area, including names such as Amazon, eBay, Expedia, Facebook, Google and Yahoo!, concluding that, in every case, carbon emissions are way too high.

Janet Lin, from Verdantix, adds that the 14 companies are growing too fast, leaving no room for focusing on energy efficience. "Risks from ignoring energy and carbon management will grow over time – not shrink", she warns.

The study concluded that only 4 of those companies reveal, at a global scale, their carbon emission / ecological footprint data. Google has done so this month, for the first time in its history.
